In partnership with Tourist in Naples
For those who don’t know Naples is the city with the highest number of churches in Italy, so don’t be surprised if it is also called città delle 500 cupole, which means city of 500 domes. In this religious scenary there are some churches that in our opinion distinguish themselves for beauty such as San Domenico Maggiore church which is a real masterpiece!
Actually the church, together with the convent and the cloister is part of one of the biggest religious complexes of the city; San Domenico Maggiore complex of Naples, without a doubt a tourist attraction that you can not miss when you travel to Naples!

THE BUILDING
The building process of the church started in the 1283 and was finished in the 1324 by the order of king Carlo II. Nowadays the churh represents a perfect example of neapolitan Baroque style; thanks to Federico Travaglini’s restoration intervention, who in the 1850-1853, realized a gilding of the walls the arches and capitals, so that the original Gothic style was replaced.
The church has three accesses; the main one, that is the one we showed you in the video from Vico SanDomenico, another one under a fifteenth-century balcony, that is currently closed to public, and the last one which is the staircase on the left side of the church. We advise you the one we showed you in the video if you don’t want to miss that majestic effect of the church.
Another important information for you is that inside the church there is a crypt of the Aragonese kings that is really interesting to visit. Entering in the church is free, but if you want to do the full itinerary the ticket is 7€.
We advise you to visit the website that is really simple: https://shop.visitaresandomenicomaggiore.it/en/ticket/biglietti
The fastes way to get there is by the metro line 1, get off in Dante, few minutes walking and you will find the church.
Now, with these little historical information about the church you are ready to visit it and appreciate its beauty. We are sure that you won’t regret it!
